Mortal Kombat Reboot Casts Sub-Zero With Joe Taslim

With Mortal Kombat being a reboot to the film Mortal Kombat (1995), it will hopefully be better visually.

Back in early May we started to hear rumblings of a new Mortal Kombat movie beginning preparation for filming, now recent news has surfaced regarding who is to play as Sub-Zero. It's also known as the first fighting game to include a "secret fighter".

Sub-Zero is an original character in the Mortal Kombat franchise, with the first version released in 1992.

The new Mortal Kombat movie is expected to debut in theatres on March 5, 2021.

With Joe Taslim playing the legendary character "Sub-Zero" fans are already excited for the film. The Conjuring director James Wan will be producing the upcoming flick for New Line Cinema, which already promises plenty of potential. He'll fit right into the Mortal Kombat Universe.

His filmography is none too shabby either, with an award-winning role in the 2011 Indonesian crime film The Raid, as well as appearances in high-profile Hollywood movies such as Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek Beyond. James Wan and Todd Garner are producing, with Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear and Sean Robins executive producing. As for the story, the script is being penned by Greg Russo, and is reportedly going to follow a Philadelphia boxer who enters the Mortal Kombat tournament, which determines the fate of the world. Hopefully this will prove the skeptics wrong and confirm that Mortal Kombat can be just as good in cinematic form as in video game form.

The film is now set for release on March 5, 2021.

No other casting details are confirmed at this point, but presumably we can expect series staples such as Liu Kang, Raiden, Sonya, Johnny Cage, and more to feature in the movie.
