A longer video apparently showed the man taking the ice cream off the shelf a second time to buy it. Officers told KTBS that a receipt showing Martin's purchase checked out.

Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Martin on July 6, reported WAFB.

The spokesman said that law enforcement has sent out notices to investigators about copycat cases. Deputies then charged him with unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity and tampering with property.

Detectives have identified and spoken with the suspect and her boyfriend; however, they are not going to identify her because of her age.

Local police turned the case over to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, and it remains under investigation.

Police say identifying the girl to begin with was particularly hard as there were multiple people with the same screen name and appearances as her, along with a "catfish" account impersonating her. Lufkin PD was initially ready to press felony charge against the girl, which would give her up to 20 years in prison.

Police now say they do not intend to charge the girl as an adult and that what happens to her is "at the discretion of the juvenile justice system". Following the incident, the company said it would be taking better safety measures to protect its packaging.
