ALF star Max Wright has died aged 75

Veteran actor Max Wright, best known as the father in 1980s sitcom ALF, died today after a long cancer battle.

The actor died at his home in Hermosa Beach, Calif after bravely battling cancer for years.

The hit show ran from 1986 to 1990 on NBC and featured Wright in every season. He also appeared on many television classics, such as Cheers, Taxi, WKRP in Cincinnati, Buffalo Bill, Misfits of Science, Dudley, and The Norm Show.

His movie credits included such films as Bob Fosse's "All That Jazz" and Warren Beatty's "Reds". The couple had two children.

Wright's wife, Linda Ybarrondo, died in 2017. TMZ was the first to report on Wright's death.

Show creator Paul Fusco added, "Max had a hard thing to do, playing straight man against ALF".

But it is "Alf" he will be eternally remembered for. He was first diagnosed with Lymphoma in 1995, but had been in remission for a long time. "I was hugely eager to have it over with", he told the publication in 2000. Though ALF wasn't something the actor enjoyed all that much, he brought a lot of people joy by playing Willie Tanner.

Max's last credited role was the 2005 TV movie Back to Norm. In July 2010, he played a shepherd in A Winter's Tale for New York City's popular summer series "Shakespeare in the Park".

His ALF co-star Michu Meszaros, who played the title character on the show, passed away after suffering complications from a stroke, in 2016.
