South Bend bar shooting kills 1, wounds 10 more

South Bend bar shooting kills 1, wounds 10 more

In a rare turn of events, the hosts of "The View" criticized Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg on Monday, with one calling his South Bend town hall performance "pi- poor".

When Buttigieg was introduced alongside South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski to people gathered in the auditorium, he was met by both boos and applause.

Prosecutors investigating said that the shooting was not recorded by O'Neill's body camera.

In Buttigieg's opening remarks at Sunday night's event, the 37-year-old promised he would send a letter to the Justice Department, requesting that its civil rights division look into the incident.

On Sunday, Buttigieg shared his thoughts on how his stop back in South Bend will impact his campaign.

St. Joseph County Police were also called to the scene to assist with crowd control at Memorial Hospital, located at 615 N Michigan St, in South Bend.

"There needs to be more meaningful conversations with a more diverse group because what you see tonight is that African Americans are not monolithic", Williams-Preston said. "I don't know if it is smart or not".

Buttigieg has temporarily halted all campaign-related appearances - missing high profile events in New York, Hollywood and SC - to address the unrest in the town where he is mayor and speak with his constituents.

The mayor spent a majority of his week in South Bend, speaking with the victim's family and members of the community.

Shouting repeatedly erupted during the town hall, which lasted for over an hour and a half, and Buttigieg was widely criticized for his demeanor and his seeming inability to handle the situation.

"We've taken a lot of steps, but they clearly haven't been enough", Buttigieg said to shouts of, "We don't trust you!" from the audience.

Asked after the town hall meeting about the latest shootings, Buttigieg described them as a "reversal" after progress in curbing violence in South Bend earlier this year and in 2018. O'Neill spotted Logan leaning inside a vehicle.

This town hall comes days before Buttigieg is scheduled to participate in the Democratic primary debates.

The government's website says the event was meant to 'outline the process for officer-involved shooting investigations and hearings before the Board of Public Safety'.
