Apple recalls MacBook Pro units over battery fire risk

Apple recalls MacBook Pro units over battery fire risk

In April 2019, Apple released a similar press release for their 13-inch MacBook Pros and stated issues relating to battery expansion for the model as grounds for the recall.

Apple hasn't said exactly how many 2015 MacBook Pro 15-inch units this recall will impact.

Hopefully none of our readers are are caught up in this recall but if you are, make sure you're follow the directions Apple has provided.

Additional information on Apple's battery recall program webpage, states, "This worldwide Apple program doesn't extend the standard warranty coverage of the 15-inch MacBook Pro".

To check if your MacBook is part of the recall, look up your serial number from "About this Mac" under the Apple menu, then enter it into Apple's recall page.

If you want to find out whether your MacBook Pro is affected, simply click the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen and select "About This Mac". The manufacturer says that a few of these batteries can overheat, which poses a security danger.

It's not clear whether that incident is related to Apple's current recall, however.

The company says that service may take one to two weeks.

Your options and specific instructions will follow as soon as you've hit "Submit" on your serial number and Apple has confirmed that your laptop is included in the program.

Apple's current and continuing problems with the MacBook Pro began in 2017 with widespread complaints from users about the butterfly-switch keyboard on Apple's newer laptops. Notably, this is the final generation of "Retina" MacBook Pros, and the issue does not affect either earlier (pre-2015) or the later USB-C models.

Apple will replace the battery free of charge.
