Google launches 53 new 'gender ambiguous' emoji

Google launches 53 new 'gender ambiguous' emoji

Google is now hosting its annual I/O developer conference in California, with much of the focus being on the software side of things, and naturally the firm's upcoming mobile operating system - Android Q.

Android versions have historically been named in alphabetical order after various forms of confectionery, with the most recent being called Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo, and Pie.

A spokesperson for Google said the emoji are now available on Android Q Beta for any of the phone models listed here. According to Google, as soon as you start your vehicle, Android Auto will continue playing your media and show your navigation app of choice. Older data will be automatically deleted from a user's account.

Google claims there are nearly 50 new features and changes which focus on security and privacy. "You'll be able to easily control your apps with one tap". Having you swipe from the left or right edge of your phone, like Xiaomi does, to go back.

Apple's chief executive Tim Cook recently declared that the company doesn't want its customers to spend all of their time on phones.

The changes to app ratings are set to work in concert with a new replies feature that developers will be able to use to respond to user reviews on the Play Store.

A new dark mode will be included for people who dislike seeing the bright white light of the background. So you'll get Android Q later this year, Android R next year, and maybe even Android S, with security updates all the way until 2022.

While it's easy to laugh off such concerns, given the extent to which users communicate with emoji, not to mention the desire to be accurately reflected in the technology these use, ensuring that these images reflect society is important. But that also gets in the way of swiping open the hamburger menu in most apps. It has been mentioned that these 53 new emojis are exclusive to Google, meaning that if you will send any of these emojis to a non-Android smartphone, it will show up with either male or female gender to the other person.

It is unclear how competitors will respond to the features included in Q.
