United States attorney general William Barr held in contempt of Congress

The White House hasn't announced pardon plans for any of Trump's associates. CNN reported last month that Trump told then-Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan, who is now the acting secretary of Homeland Security, he would pardon him if McAleenan were sent to jail for having border agents block asylum seekers from entering the USA in defiance of U.S. law.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone said McGahn does not have any "legal right" to the materials because they are controlled by the White House. The idea that the special counsel didn't do everything it could to nail Trump is ludicrous.

Recall that it was the same Jerry Nadler who back in 2012 touted that he "just joined the #walkout of the House chamber to protest the shameful, politically-motivated GOP vote holding AG [Eric] Holder in contempt".

"Every day we learn of new efforts by this administration to stonewall Congress", Mr Nadler said. The letter stopped short of invoking executive privilege, which, at this point, might be hard because the documents were already released to Mueller.

Amid a broad stonewalling of numerous House probes into Trump's presidency and family and business interests, the administration is opposing Neal's efforts to obtain six years of Trump's individual and business tax returns.

"Now as I said yesterday, the president is nearly self-impeaching because he is everyday demonstrating more obstruction of justice and disrespect for Congress's legitimate role to subpoena". And obstruction of justice is what the Judiciary Committee is interested in.

But Trump has said he would block McGahn's testimony. These documents would deal with those accusations.

The papers in question are believed to include contemporaneous notes taken by McGahn's secretary.

The president's decision was weeks in the making, the next inevitable escalation between the White House and Congress over a number of probes.

RASCOE: Yeah, this is a part of what has essentially become a blockade by the administration.

Senator Chuck Schumer of Unique York, the Democratic leader, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in a joint assertion, blasted the speech as a "magnificent act of political cynicism and a brazen violation of the oath we all clutch".

The House Judiciary Committee has set a vote for Wednesday on whether to cite Attorney General William Barr with contempt of Congress over his refusal to provide it with a full, unredacted version of Mueller's report and underlying evidence from the investigation.

The White House gave McGahn permission to speak with Mueller. Mr. McConnell asked. "Or would we remain consumed by unhinged partisanship, and place dividing ourselves to the goal that Putin and his brokers want finest stand on the sidelines and look as their job is performed for them?" The report's out, and there's nothing else to see here.

The New York bill wouldn't make Trump's returns public, but Congress could potentially decide to do so.

SHAPIRO: So how does the standoff get resolved? The House would likely have to hire an outside litigation firm with a strong appellate practice that could handle the case.

The White House has not yet invoked executive privilege over the material, however.

"As you will appreciate, Mr. McGahn, as a former assistant to the president and the most senior attorney for the president in his official capacity, continues to owe certain duties and obligations to the President which he is not free to disregard", wrote attorney William Burck.
