Donald Trump Jr. subpoenaed by Republican-controlled Senate intelligence committee

The Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee has issued a subpoena to the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett has confirmed.

In testimony before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee, however, Cohen, said he briefed Trump family members "approximately 10 times" about the Moscow Trump Tower project, and that Trump Jr. and his sister Ivanka were among the family members he briefed.

Trump Jr's subpoena is the first congressional subpoena issued by the Republican-led Senate to one of the US President's children, according to Axios. Trump Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2017 he was only "peripherally aware" of the proposal. But Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican member of the panel, hinted after Cohen spoke behind closed doors to the Senate intelligence panel that the committee would want to talk to Trump Jr. again.

The detail, contained in special counsel Robert Mueller's report on the Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible coordination between the Trump team and Moscow, sparked sharp scrutiny of Burr's conduct, but the committee's Democrats largely refrained from launching their own criticisms and Burr later denied the allegation.

According to the Mueller report, special counsel investigators could not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with Russian Federation.

Congressional Democrats believe that, during his previous turns on Capitol Hill, Trump Jr. may have lied to investigators about that meeting and whether he told President Trump that the meeting would take place. They should NOT be taking orders from unhinged resistance Dems. Rand Paul, including a link to the original Axios report and referring to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's Tuesday declaration. "Let's work together to help POTUS move U.S. forward", Rep. Barr refused to testify before the Democratic-controlled committee last week after a dispute over the hearing's format.

The reports came as a battle between House Democrats and the Trump administration intensified. A person close to the president's eldest son, who requested anonymity to discuss the matter, said Wednesday that Trump has continued to co-operate by producing documents and answering written questions. The White House has also asserted executive privilege to prevent former White House counsel Don McGahn from testifying.
