Kim Jong Un visits war memorial following summit with Putin

Kim met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday on the Russky island in Vladivostok.

Since March 2018, the North Korean leader has held four meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, three with South Korea's Moon Jae-in, two with Trump and one with Vietnam's president.

"Basically, they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety and we couldn't do that", Trump said. Conversely, Kim appears unwilling to budge on his demand that the USA allow for denuclearization simultaneously with a phased approach to lifting sanctions - a tactic that has failed in the past because North Korea has reportedly lied about its nuclear program.

"I think we're doing very well with North Korea".

The remarks will likely add to pressure on the U.S. to be more flexible on a North Korean demand for an easing of worldwide sanctions.

Kim used Daimler-branded stretch limousines at his two summits with President Trump and at his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin said that Russian Federation also wants to reduce tension on the Korean peninsula.

Kim avoided getting into details at negotiating sessions, instead leaving it to diplomats to build strategy, two diplomatic sources in Seoul familiar with the North's diplomatic engagements said.

Kim and Putin also discussed "strengthening cooperation at the highest level, including holding summits, as well as expanding exchange and cooperation between the governments, parliaments, regions and organizations of both sides in various formats", KCNA added.

The pair "were unanimous" that their meeting could help in "strategically controlling the unstable situation of the Korean peninsula in the wake of the second DPRK-US summit talks", KCNA said.

Putin backed the North's demand for "security guarantees" in its standoff with the United States over the nuclear capability, which Washington wants to see scrapped entirely, but Pyongyang fears would leave the country vulnerable. Yet amid the two Trump-Kim summits, the Kremlin had been somewhat sidelined.

He is believed to have also used the S600 Pullman Guard for his summits with Mr Trump in Singapore in June past year and in Vietnam in February.

Experts say that the Russian Federation summit can be interpreted as Pyongyang's push to prepare for a protracted stalemate in nuclear talks with Washington as sanctions are unlikely to be eased or lifted anytime soon.

Earlier this month North Korea demanded that Mr Pompeo be removed from nuclear talks, accusing him of "talking nonsense" and asking for someone "more careful" to replace him.

During Thursday's summit, Putin offered to act as an intermediary between the countries and also called for full de-nuclearisation along the Korean Peninsula.

"They (the North Koreans) only need guarantees about their security".

The mercurial North Korean kept officials in suspense about his post-summit plans.

Kim on Friday also appeared for a wreath-laying ceremony at a World War II memorial to Russia's Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok.

Kim left about 4 1/2 hours earlier than planned, Russian news agencies reported.

Kim took part in a departure ceremony at Vladivostok railway station before his train departed around 0530 GMT.

Kim strongly criticized Washington for taking a "unilateral attitude in bad faith" at his February meeting with Trump in Hanoi said that caused the diplomatic standstill, North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency said Friday.
