North Korea Confirms Kim Jong Un "Soon" To Visit Russia

North Korea Confirms Kim Jong Un

It is unusual for the North's state media to report the leader's travel plans in advance. The Russian news agency TASS added that Kim would spend Wednesday night in North Korea near the Russian border, a necessary stop given the length of the train ride from Pyongyang, estimated to take between 15 and 24 hours depending on the condition of Kim's train.

Historically, North Korea has always played Beijing off against Moscow.

The Rodong Sinmun, the North's official newspaper, also reported on Kim's planned trip to Russian Federation without providing further details.

In the Bloomberg interview, Bolton said that for a third Trump-Kim summit to take place, "a real indication from North Korea that they've made the strategic decision to give up nuclear weapons", would be needed.

North Korea has so far not gotten what it wants most from the recent flurry of high-level summitry between Kim and various world leaders - namely, relief from crushing global sanctions.

North Korea has confirmed the meeting with Russian Federation.

Relations between the two nations have frayed in recent weeks after the North recently tested a deadly new warhead. Kim did not make a public appearance during the major WPK meetings last week in which Kim Jong-un appointed the Party's leaders and delivered a blistering speech announcing he was abandoning direct diplomacy with American President Donald Trump in the short term.

The North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the visit will happen "soon", but did not elaborate on the time or location.

"This meeting is important for Russian worldwide prestige". The "nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula" would be the main item on the agenda, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Tuesday.

South Korean TV KBS has published a video allegedly showing a motorcade of North Korean delegation which arrived in Russia's Vladivostok ahead of the North Korean leader's visit to Russian Federation.

Dr Petrov said the current trade between Russia and North Korea was "minimal" - less than $100 million per year - compared to the size of the Russian economy, but the North Korean market has untapped potential because it's "hungry for consumer goods and energy".
