Ocasio-Cortez also briefly touched upon how Twitter enables the president to harass his opponents, referencing the Trump's recent video intercutting footage of 9/11 with cherry-picked comments from Representative Ilhan Omar.

Crenshaw had already shot down a suggestion from Omar that he was inciting violence against her by criticizing her.

Congresswoman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez denounced a conservative group for the incendiary rhetoric against her on Wednesday, highlighting how employing similar language causes a spike in the number of death threats.

"You refuse to cosponsor the 9/11 Victim's Compensation Fund, yet have the audacity to drum resentment towards Ilhan w/completely out-of-context quotes", Ocasio-Cortez responded to Crenshaw. "Why don't you go do something about that?"

Her tweet came as she defended her fellow freshman Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, whom Republican critics have accused of belittling the September 11 terrorist attacks. Bernie Sanders praised Omar, one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, tweeting that "she won't back down to Trump's racism and hate, and neither will we".

The former head of the DNC, Ed Rendell, said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's, D-N.Y., decision to defend fellow freshman Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, over her comments about the September 11 terror attacks, was "incomprehensible". The New York Post denounced Omar on their cover on Thursday, which featured an image of the Twin Towers ablaze after the planes hit with the words "Here's Your Something".

"I am questioning how any American, let alone a United States Congresswoman, could downplay the 9/11 attacks", the Fox News host later tweeted.

"All Rep. Omar had to do was explain herself", Crenshaw said.

Her priorities include tackling climate change - and her environmental stance would most likely go down well among the eco-friendly crowd at the festival which has banned single-use plastic bottles on site. A former reporter for McClatchy's Miami Herald, she also spent several years covering the White House. My fellow students often tell me that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a "role model" and that America should be more like socialist Europe.
