Kings interested in hiring Walton as next coach

"After evaluating the season, I determined that we need to move in a different direction in order to take us to the next level".

The report states that Divac is looking to consolidate his power on top the franchise and assistant GM Brandon Williams was sacked Thursday morning.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Divac and Joerger are scheduled to meet at some point on Thursday to discuss the team's future.

The news comes after Divac agreed to a four-year extension with Sacramento to keep him through the 2022-23 season. "Unfortunately, we fell short". The trade was meant to help bolster Sacramento's chances of making the playoffs, but the Kings fell short.

Joerger just completed his third season as the Kings' head coach and oversaw a jump from 27 to 39 wins, but that total was not enough to snap the franchise's playoff drought, now up to 13 consecutive seasons. Overall, Joerger compiled a 98-148 record with the Kings.

ESPN reported "Divac is pushing to consolidate his power as Kings top basketball executive" and will hold a meeting Thursday to fire Joerger.

Kings owner Vivek Ranadive offered unqualified support for Divac. Prior to joining the Kings, he coached the Memphis Grizzlies for three seasons. "Throughout his entire career, Vlade is someone who has always made those around him better, both on and off the court".
