PlayStation Fortnite players can now change their PSN IDs

So, you'll be pleased to know that Sony has announced that as of today you can change your PSN username, which is no doubt a long-awaited feature for all Playstation users.

But how do you actually change your PSN ID? PS3 and PS Vita games are not supported.

Players who change their PSN ID will also see their name change in Fortnite.

To change your PSN ID, you must either use a PS4 or your computer.

On the bright side, your first name change is completely free. Subsequent changes will cost $9.99 USD / CAD, but if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber the fee is reduced by half to $4.99.

Everyone's first PSN name change is free.

Q: Can I revert back to my old ID?

On the PS4, players can head to Settings Account Management Account Information Profile Online ID and follow the system's instruction to make the change. So while games published for the first time after April 1, 2018, should all work, not every single one has been tested. There is also an official list of games both with no known issues and with identified issues.

For example: a game released in 2015 has been re-mastered or re-sold as a complete edition in 2018 will not support the ID change feature.

Q: Can any account change their online ID?

"However, since they have not all been specifically tested with the feature, we can not guarantee that they will support it".

Some people out there saying "PSN ID name changes are too risky because you may lose some save files on old games" but let me counter that argument. There's a compatibility list that shows the potential problems you might face, including a few titles (such as Just Dance 2017 and LittleBigPlanet 3) with "critical issues" that break the experience. "Do keep in mind that the large majority of most actively played PS4 games support the feature". We expect major issues to occur only in a small number of games. Games with critical issues might result in lost progress, or they could even lose in-game currency.

PlayStation recommends reading its list of tested games to check if the feature is supported as well as if it may cause any other issues.
