Google Duplex continues its expansion in the United States

Saying "OK Google" is already more syllables than are required to wake up competing smart assistants like Alexa.

Google Assistant now can make Duplex calls on Pixel phones in 43 states - tough luck, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska and Texas - with the feature moving beyond Google's phones shortly.

If a restaurant you'd like to dine at uses an online booking service that's partnered with Google, the AI will try to book a table for you that way.

It remains to be seen when support will go live in the remainder of the non-supported states as it's possible local regulations may prohibit the use of a feature like this for various reasons. "We're actively working to reach full coverage, but don't have a timeline to share at this time". Google Assistant handles everything once you issue your command. That said, Continued Conversation is available only to USA residents who have their Assistant languages set to English (United States). The company reiterated that it is an automated AI-powered system that will record call conversations. Duplex made its public debut at last year's Google I/O event and instantly became one of the main talking points of the event. "Once your reservation is successfully made, you'll receive a notification on your phone, an email update and a calendar invite so you don't forget", said Scott Huffman, vice president of engineering for Google Assistant.

The company's fix center page still doesn't reflect the news, but Google says it'll update it soon.

How Duplex will make restaurant reservations?

Until today, Google had limited Duplex to its own Pixel devices but now, it's expanding the tech to iOS devices as well.
