Saudi vows to ‘de-escalate’ India-Pakistan tensions after Pulwama attack

Pakistan will confer its highest civilian honour on the Saudi crown prince on Monday, a day after he signed investment deals worth $20 billion on the first stop of an Asian tour clouded by his alleged role in the grisly murder of a dissident journalist.

"We are desperate at the moment", Khan told MEE.

He also lauded the Crown Prince for the development and investment files that would push the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a rapid progress and prosperity in view of its Vision 2030. He plans to head to India on Tuesday after postponing his trips to Indonesia and Malaysia.

"Not travelling to the West does not mean that he can not come to the East. Saudi Arabia is also making strategic adjustments, and Asia is the new main direction of Saudi diplomacy", he said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan warmly hugged Prince Mohammed bin Salam, who alighted from his plane with broad smile on his face. The amount of that kind of investment is Dollars 20 billion.

This was followed by the inaugural session of the Saudi-Pakistan Supreme Coordination Council (SCC), co-chaired by the prime minister and the Crown Prince.

Khan himself drove the prince to the prime minister's residence, where he was met by an honor guard.

"Pakistan is going to be very, very important country in the future and we want to be sure we are part of that", he added. Many in the West blamed Prince Mohammed for the killing, which triggered the kingdom's biggest political crisis for a generation. In response to Prime Minister Khan's request for Saudi Arabia to treat Pakistani Labourers as their own people, the Saudi prince stated, "Consider me an ambassador of Pakistan in Saudi Arabia".

The government expressed satisfaction over Saudi Arabia's condemnation of the Pulwama terror attack and said this was another sign that Riyadh now had a much better understanding of India's position on terrorism.

Media minister Turki al-Shabanah tweeted: "Reports claiming that HRH the Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman intends on buying Man Utd are completely false".

The two countries made a decision to establish a Joint Supreme Coordination Council co-chaired by the Saudi Crown Prince and Pakistan's Prime Minister for enhancing and institutionalizing the bilateral relations in various fields.

The council includes respective ministers of foreign affairs, defense, defense production, finance, energy, petroleum, water resources, information, culture, interior, commerce, trade and investment and human resources of both countries.
