New Zealand vs India - Highlights & Stats

India folded for 139 in 19.2 overs collapsing to their worst-ever defeat by 80 runs in the first T20 worldwide. Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santener and Ish Sodhi all claimed two wickets apiece.

"Kinda amusing when I got told that I'll be opening the innings", Seifert told Star Sports, after setting up New Zealand's 80-run win with an explosive 43-ball 84, "I YouTubed Brendon McCullum and watched some of his innings".

Propelled by a brilliant innings from Tim Seifert, New Zealand finished the 20 overs on 219-6.

India were all out in reply for 139 with four balls remaining, in only the eighth time they have failed to bat through in a 20-over innings. India's previous worst was a 49-run loss to Australia back in 2010.

With Munro also lashing out, they put on 86 in 50 balls for the first wicket before Munro fell for 34.

First, Karthik dropped a straightforward catch at long-on to give Tim Seifert a life on 71.

The Northern Districts wicketkeeper struck 84 off just 43 balls from the top of the order, notching up sevens fours and six sixes in total.

After Munro perished for 34, Seifert and skipper Williamson added another 48 runs before cameos by Ross Taylor and Scott Kuggeleijn took New Zealand past the 200 mark.

However the fact that doesn't depict the favorable scenario for India is that they lost to New Zealand 0-2 when they toured there for their first bilateral series in February 2009.

India came into the contest on the back of a 4-1 victory in the one-day global series but sorely missed the stability offered by regular skipper Virat Kohli, who has been rested for the three T20 matches.

The second match in the series is in Auckland on Friday.
