U.S. singer Chris Brown arrested in Paris following rape accusation

A woman filed a complaint against Brown in the 17th arrondissement of northwest Paris, a police official told The Associated Press Tuesday.

The singer has been accused of raping an unidentified 24-year-old woman at a hotel in Paris on January 15, 2019.

The woman's name was not mentioned for legal reasons, but it was said she met the singer at a nightclub after which she followed him to his hotel room along with other women and three men.

Chris Brown arrested on rape charges in Paris. According to HuffPost, the 29-year-old "Kiss Kiss" artist was detained on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, after a woman claimed that he'd raped her. In June of 2017, a judge granted his former girlfriend Karrueche Tran a restraining order against Brown after she alleged that he texted her violent threats. She says the singer was smoking weed and snorting cocaine that night, and at one point, tried to take her into a bathroom. Brown has been spotted over the last week in Paris attending events around Paris Fashion Week.

In 2009, he pleaded guilty to felony assault after beating then-girlfriend Rihanna, striking a plea deal for domestic violence counseling, community service and five years of probation in lieu of jail time. The alleged victim reportedly said she'd met Brown and members of his crew on the night of January 15, leading into January 16, while at the club Le Crystal in the city's 8th arrondissement.
