Jayme Closs found after missing for months: authorities

Late Thursday, Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said Jayme had been found in Gordon, but he had few other details.

"Jayme was the hero in the case".

Officials say Closs is doing well after having been missing from the Barron area since October 15.

"Jayme is an example of why we never lose hope and never stop searching", the organisation said on Facebook.

"We are still mourning the loss of long-time Jennie-O family members Jim and Denise, but our entire team is celebrating with the community, and the world, that Jayme has been found", Mr Lykken said.

Closs was speaking to investigators on Friday after spending a night in the hospital for evaluation.

Patterson was arrested Thursday and is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and one of kidnapping.

"I can tell you that the subject planned his actions and took many proactive steps to hide his identity from law enforcement and the general public", Fitzgerald said.

As an adult she realized they didn't mean any harm, she said.

Jayme was found on Thursday in the small town of Gordon, some 70 miles (112km) from her home in Barron. The girl's grandfather, Robert Naiberg, insisted Saturday that none of them know him, raising questions about how Patterson became aware of Jayme.

A woman who has a cabin nearby was walking along the isolated road when she saw Jayme on the cold evening, just about dusk, without a coat or gloves.

"I'm lost and I don't know where I am, and I need help", Jayme told Nutter.

The woman took her to a neighbor's house where they called police. When police stepped inside the family's home, they found the parents dead but no sign of Jayme.

The grandfather of Jayme Closs, who authorities say was abducted during a home invasion that left her parents dead said on Saturday that the family has no connection to the suspect and doesn't understand why he targeted her, deepening a mystery that has captivated the U.S. for months.

"There is a reunification process in place going on right now that includes medical and mental evaluation, questioning by detectives and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, and after that, unification with her family", Fitzgerald said. District Attorney Brian Wright said he does not believe Patterson, who is unemployed and has no social media footprint, had any prior contact with the Closs family.

He had no criminal record, according to the sheriff.

It appears Patterson went to the Closs home with the intention of taking Jayme, Fitzgerald said.

Nutter knew of the girl's disappearance, which was reported nationally, and intensely so in the state.

After 87 days, 13-year-old Jayme Closs has been found alive in rural Wisconsin.

When they arrived, Kasinskas fed Jayme while they waited around half an hour for the police to arrive, Kasinskas told MPR.

The suspect in the kidnapping of a Wisconsin teen and murder of her parents worked at the same plant as the parents, police say. She said she didn't really remember anything about him except that he was quiet.

"I have no clue who they are", she said. "And the dad I guess, I don't know". Patterson was apparently out looking for her when he was stopped by a sheriff's deputy based on a description of his vehicle from Jayme, authorities said.

The girl's name rose to the top of the FBI's missing persons list, and authorities offered a US$50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery.
