Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool have earned Manchester City's respect

A 0-0 draw at Anfield in October left a worldwide audience somewhat underwhelmed.

When I won the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95 we were eight points clear with six games to go but weren't crowned as champions until the last day of the season.

"We couldn't expect more than this, it's a brilliant feeling".

We spoke to creator of the Blue Moon Podcast, David Mooney (@DavidMooney), to get the lowdown. A collective unit combined with stellar individual quality helped Liverpool stay atop the Premier League without losing a single game so far in this season. For me, he's the master, but when City had to overturn a 3-0 deficit in Europe last season, he made mistakes. Now we are in their position and we need to learn how they did it and finish the season well.

It's been a combination of factors, for me.

As for Guardiola's praise for Liverpool, Klopp said: "I heard it". If we would be 10 points behind then would my first thing after the game be to say: 'We still will catch them!' Of course not. That's caught up with City in recent matches. They're in top form. They will have seen Liverpool's forwards standing off Arsenal whenever they had a goal-kick early in the game. There are others who can do the holding midfield role, but there is much less impetus when Fernandinho isn't there.

City's back four have been told to hold an high line too because of Liverpool players' habit of straying offside.

When he succeeded Brendan Rodgers as Reds boss in 2015, Klopp described Liverpool's illustrious history as a "20 kilo backpack" that had arguably come to hinder the club in the modern era.

It's just the flawless storm, isn't it?

Guardiola is confident that his own players will embrace the pressure. I know what happened after Chelsea and Leicester won the league, the year after was tough [for them].

"You don't want to have a book on each opponent as a player, that's not interesting".

That leaves us with a prospect of City attacking the Reds, which in turn provides Liverpool with an opportunity to play on the counter, in which they are one of the best. And we are a very, very, very good football team as well, so that's why we have the amount of points, that's why we had the results.

Thursday's match is likely to be pivotal in the title race with Liverpool having the chance to stretch their advantage over City to a double-digit lead.

Will Pep do anything differently this time? But we are there, we have a lot of games to go and I think everyone will lose points, even Liverpool.

"My only question of Liverpool would be how they play it". City's problems at left-back remain, however, with Benjamin Mendy injured and Fabian Delph suspended.
