Instagram Accidentally Rolls Out Horizontal Scroll, Freaks Out Users (NASDAQ:FB)

Instagram Accidentally Rolls Out Horizontal Scroll, Freaks Out Users (NASDAQ:FB)

The world's most popular social media app just got a complete interface makeover, and many of its users were not happy about it.

The bug led to a small test being distributed widely, the company said.

The update, which required users to tap to see the next post instead of scrolling through a feed, was short-lived.

Many users took to Twitter to vent their feelings.

Some Internet users have found the bright side to the Instagram update debacle, however.

'Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today, ' an Instagram spokesperson told Dailymail.com. "Introducing a new way to move through posts", a pop-up message introducing the new feature reads.

If you're still seeing the update, Mosseri suggests closing out and launching the app again. "I'm not trying to swipe photos @instagram can I have the old layout back?" tweeted user @j_mallari.

Instagram appears to have changed how users scroll through the application. and then it changed it back.

News of the Instagram update actually surfaced back in October, according to TechCrunch.

Reactions to Instagram's unpopular update came through thick and fast on Twitter. Our redesigned algorithmic Friend Feed made it harder to find the right people to talk to, and moving too quickly meant that we didn't have time to optimize the Friend Feed for fast performance.

But on Twitter, angry users were tapping out responses conveying their displeasure with yet another update they didn't ask for. "We apologize for any confusion", a representative said.

The following video shows how the tap-to-advance in the feed worked on Instagram.
