Trump Selects Nauert as UN Ambassador, Per Report

President Trump announced Friday morning that he has chosen Heather Nauert, a State Department spokesperson, to fill the role.

On Friday, Trump revealed Haley's replacement at the global body, confirming that he intends to appoint US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert, a former Fox News correspondent, to the position.

He told reporters at the White House that she is 'very talented, very smart, very quick.

If confirmed, Nauert, 48, will replace Nikki Haley, who announced in October she would resign at the end of the year.

After Tillerson's departure, Nauert was catapulted into the position of acting undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs. Nauert was mostly a polished and unflappable defender of administration policy, smoothing over frequent rifts between the Trump's first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, and the White House.

As for Nauert, a former Fox News Channel host, Gingrich said she's a "very solid pick" for United Nations ambassador. "She is a fine and capable person", Graham said, adding that she had the confidence of Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. "Ambassador Haley will always be a true friend of the State of Israel".

"Nauert is a very good public operator, and should do a professional job presenting USA policy at the UN", Richard Gowan, a senior fellow at the United Nations University's Center for Policy Research, said in the Bloomberg report.

But the Senate, which alone needs to confirm Nauert, is still under the control of Trump´s Republican Party. Further, she will confront a stream of anti-U.S. and anti-Israel rhetoric at the world body - something Haley constantly pushed back against during her tenure.

And, last but not least, no one would deny Nauert's attractiveness, which seems crucial in the noble role of being the "US face" and White House policy mouthpiece overseas, doesn't it?

The announcement comes hours after a resolution championed by Haley condemning the Hamas terror group failed to pass in the General Assembly.

Mr. Trump slammed Mr. Sessions repeatedly for the past two years, finally asking for his resignation on the day after the midterm elections last month. She does not have prior political or policy-making experience. Previously, she was a Fox News presenter and correspondent.

"Pine Manor College is, and has always been, a community focused on student success - we call it Educating with objective", said college spokesman Efrat Zinnar-Shavit.

A senior White House official said late on Thursday that the United Nations ambassador post would not remain part of the Cabinet, as it has been under Haley.

"She is obviously extremely knowledgeable and well-versed in the foreign policy of this administration and has answered questions and defended it in front of a number of different press inquiries", Schaefer said.
