New Balance To Sign Kawhi Leonard

New Balance To Sign Kawhi Leonard

On Wednesday, Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes broke the news that Kawhi Leonard is signing an endorsement deal with New Balance.

For the most part, Kawhi has been rocking the Air Jordan 32 Low this season but that won't be the case for much longer.

2018 has taken Kawhi Leonard to a new team and a new shoe sponsor. Leonard will become the highest-profile member of New Balance's basketball roster and reportedly will earn a hefty salary for doing so.

With companies such as Puma and China-based Li-Ning and Anta trying to make their way into the space, it's no surprise New Balance is attempting to do the same.

Yahoo just made a decision to go after the New Balance company as a whole.

While terms have not been disclosed, industry expectations are that New Balance is likely to have offered significantly more than $5 million per year.

Per SB Nation: Contract negotiations reportedly broke down at the last minute after Leonard's reps felt Jordan's offer wasn't representative of his standing as one of the top players in the National Basketball Association.

When the news of Leonard signing with New Balance got out, however, Black Twitter and NBA Twitter went to work on Kawhi choosing to endorse "dad shoes". The Raptors now boast a league-best 18-4 record, powered by Leonard's MVP-level play. In basketball, New Balance is best known for its endorsement of James Worthy in the '80s with the deal including the development of a signature shoe.
