Gov. -elect Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in the area and has requested federal funds to help those impacted by wildfires in the state.

Smoke from a wildfire in Butte County has moved over the Bay Area Thursday, prompting an alert by air quality authorities.

California Highway Patrol announced Thursday afternoon it had closed several roads in the area, including Skyway Road, which is the northerly passage out of town, and Highway 70 to the south of the fire.

A local fire official said there were multiple injuries among civilians and firefighters.

The fire forced the evacuation of patients from Paradise's main hospital to hospitals in Oroville and Chico.

"Firefighters continue to be challenged with extreme fire and weather conditions including strong winds and with long range spotting", Cal Fire wrote on their website Thursday.

"Most of them were immobile with walkers, or spouses that were bed-ridden, so we were trying to get additional units to come and try and help us, just taking as many as we could", he said, describing the community as having "a lot of elderly, a lot of immobile people, some low-income with no vehicles". "The message I want to get out is if you can evacuate, you need to evacuate", Honea said.

PARADISE, California-A fast-moving wildfire roared through a Northern California town on November 8, with reports of fatalities as it engulfed dozens of buildings and tens of thousands of people fled the flames, police and state authorities said.

He started putting out the fire and yelled at her to get back inside, she says. "I'm driving through fire as we speak".

She and her husband grabbed their dog, jumped in their pickup truck and drove through flames before getting to safety, she said. Dramatic footage shows flames closing in around the highways out of town and thick smoke hanging in the sky, obscuring the horizon.

In addition to the Woolsey Fire, the Hill Fire was burning northwest of Thousand Oaks in the Santa Rosa Valley.

Cal Fire is continuing to update which public agencies and media outlets are tallying road closures and evacuation orders.

"We never heard from them again", Lee said.

Yesterday, Cal Fire officials said that parts of Northern and Southern California was under a "red flag" warning for critical fire weather "due to gusty winds, dry fuels & low humidity".
