Chinese start-up Royole claims crown of world’s ‘first foldable phone’

Chinese start-up Royole claims crown of world’s ‘first foldable phone’

The company unveiled a foldable Android smartphone with a 7.8-inch screen.

Samsung earlier this week unveiled the evolution of its Infinity displays designs, including screen versions for future Samsung phones with notch designs, the foldable phone's Infinity Flex display, as well as an exciting "New Infinity" screen I hoped we'd see on the Galaxy S10 next year.

At the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco, Justin Denison, a senior vice president of mobile product marketing, withdrew a prototype of what has so far been called the Galaxy F from the inside pocket of his suit. In addition, users can browse, watch, connect and multitask without losing a beat, simultaneously using three active apps on the larger display. On Tuesday, Royole showed the FlexPai to a group of journalists in San Francisco.

Bixby Developer Studio: This is a collection of tools created to provide an intuitive way for developers and partners to infuse intelligence into more services and devices. Now, it is evolving into a scalable, open AI platform to support many devices, including fridge and TVs. Or, the screen might split into two areas, where you're able to view a sidebar.

Samsung announced its first Android Go device, the Galaxy J2 Core, back in August, and it's already back with a sequel. These are first generation devices but imagine some years from now where physical ports have been removed, driving electronics significantly reduced in size, and batteries perhaps flexible, too.

Samsung and Google want you to jump seamlessly from using an app on the 4.5-inch screen to pick up exactly where you left off when you unfold the phone and start using its 7.3-inch display. The one thing Infinity O phones won't be able to do is offer Face ID-like authentication, and that's because 3D facial recognition requires more components at the top of the phone, and they therefore need a bigger notch.
