Megyn Kelly's morning show at NBC has been canceled

"An NBC News spokesperson said in a statement, "'Megyn Kelly Today" is not returning.

The Sunday show quickly failed and her hour of the Today show has grossly under-performed compare to when it was hosted by Tamron Hall and Al Roker - the former of which was forced out of NBC and MSNBC upon news of Kelly's arrival.

Yet another source said that if NBC keeps Kelly, it would be "an Ann Curry situation, where they try to save face and give her some fake job when everybody knows she'll never be seen again at 30 Rock".

The status of her conversations with the network about her departure are still in progress, according to two people familiar with conversations who were not authorized to speak publicly.

Stelter later talked about how Kelly aggressively covered #MeToo cases on her show and that she challenged NBC management in a public manner. "I thought Andy Lack, who runs NBC, summed it up very nicely when he said it was a very unfortunate thing", she said. Social media condemnation was swift, and Kelly apologized to fellow NBC staffers later in the day and made a tearful apology on her show Wednesday.

She largely floundered with that soft-news focus, and a pair of awkward and hostile interviews with Hollywood figures Jane Fonda and Debra Messing backfired. The reports also suggest that Kelly may be out at NBC altogether. "But I'm not going to be one of the ones piling on Megyn Kelly at this time". In its first year, Ms Kelly's show averaged 2.4 million viewers a day, a drop of 400,000 from the year before.

In a statement, the network news division said the show won't return, a decision that follows fallout from Kelly's on-air comments about blackface.

While at Fox, Ms Kelly cultivated a reputation for toughness and a willingness to challenge conservative orthodoxy. In 2013, while an anchor at Fox, Ms Kelly addressed the ethnicity of Santa Claus by saying: "For all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white".
