Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry are expecting, says Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace says Prince Harry and his wife the Duchess of Sussex are expecting a child in the spring. The Palace also revealed that the Queen along with the Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla and Prince William and Kate Middleton were "delighted" when they found out about the news.

Kensington Palace has announced that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first baby in spring 2019.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex landed in Australia on Monday for the start of their first official royal visit since they married in May.

The tour coincides with the third Invictus Games, an worldwide sports competition Harry founded in 2014 for wounded veterans and members of the military, which kicks off Saturday.

After their arrival in Sydney, the prince and the former American actress held hands and walked out an airport rear entrance and into a auto. A spokesman confirmed to reporters that Meghan and Harry sought medical advice and decided it was safe to continue their travels.

The couple, who will be staying in Admiralty House for the next week, made the announcement on Monday morning (UK time). "Wishing them all the best", she wrote.

Harry and Meghan's sojourn in the southern hemisphere will be more brief but will see the couple retracing parts of the path once trod by his father and mother.

Several onlookers congratulated the couple on their baby news, with Meghan replying: 'Thank you so much.

"Well that didn't take him long", someone joked, sharing a gif of Prince Harry.

Meghan wowed schoolgirl sisters Hannah and Francesca Francis, 12 and 10, who said they were "super excited" to meet the couple.

It will be the first child for both Harry and Meghan, who was previously married to producer Trevor Engelson for six years.

"I think there's going to be a child on the way straight away for them", Harry told hosts Georgie Gardner and Ben Fordham.

Australia's Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, and his wife Lynn, presented them with a toy kangaroo, complete with joey, as well as a little pair of Ugg boots.

The baby will be seventh in line to the throne, and the Queen's eighth great-grandchild. It is all but mandatory for a major royal to have a charity project, and Meghan's choice addressed the biggest tragedy to befall Britain in the past years.
