Brett Kavanaugh participates in swearing-in ceremony at White House

So, for Democrats, such as Rep. Jerrold Nadler of NY, to say that they are going to investigate Kavanaugh for perjury and related issues if the Democrats take the House and/or Senate is not only premature, but a bad mistake, and one that will only redound to the Democrats' detriment.

Kavanaugh denies that he ever sexually assaulted anyone.

"I am here because President Trump mocked sexual assault victims", said North Carolina native Kara Harrington, 50.

Other GOP leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have been insisting that the fight over Kavanaugh has energized the Republican base.

Activists protest on the steps and plaza of the Supreme Court after the confirmation vote of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, on Capitol Hill, Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 in Washington.

Trump, throughout the day, insisted Kavanagh would not be tainted by the sexual assault allegations from Christine Blasey Ford and others that almost tanked his nomination, declaring he was "100 percent" certain his nominee was innocent.

To Democrats, Kavanaugh's ascent to the Supreme Court in spite of decades-old sexual misconduct allegations will only deepen the party's pull with female voters, including independents and moderates who may have previously voted for Republicans.

The two-vote margin of victory in the Senate made it the closest Supreme Court confirmation vote since 1881 - and by far the most contentious since Clarence Thomas in 1991.

The bitter partisan fight over Kavanaugh's nomination became a firestorm after sexual misconduct allegations emerged involving Kavanaugh.

More news: Republicans aim to confirm Brett Kavanaugh this weekend

"We have a lot of women that are extremely happy - a tremendous number - because they're thinking of their sons, they're thinking of their husbands and their brothers and their uncles and others and women are, I think, extremely happy", he said.

"I'm doing rallies and people are loving that man and loving that choice", he said while in Florida. But when asked again Sunday about it, he said different rules might apply if the same party controls the Senate and White House.

Trump said he once told Kavanaugh that his confirmation would be a "piece of cake".

Ford addressed the harassment against her in prepared remarks to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she said: "My family and I have been the target of constant harassment and death threats".

"You, sir, under historic scrutiny, were proven innocent", Trump said to Kavanaugh.

"Is it more likely than not that Brett Kavanaugh assaulted Christine Ford?", Collins later added. After the "yes" vote of Maine Republican Susan Collins who was a pivotal senator on the nomination, a protester yelled, "Shame on you, you're a disgrace to this country". Following the hearing and under tremendous political pressure, Trump had ordered a last-minute Federal Bureau of Investigation supplemental inquiry.

The president - whose Republicans fear losing at least the lower chamber of Congress in November - angrily predicted that the Kavanaugh row would backfire on Democrats.

"All these angry people out there, they know that it is the people who are sitting in the Senate that they've elected who are making these decisions and they're going to go to the polls and they're going to vote differently", warned Sen.
