Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino sentenced to prison for tax evasion

"Jersey Shore" star Mike Sorrentino was sentenced to eight months behind bars on Friday for admittedly dodging taxes on some of his income. Marc Sorrentino will pay a lesser criminal fine of $7,500. "The courts recognize the severity of these crimes and now Michael and Marc Sorrentino are convicted felons with prison sentences to serve for intentionally disregarding their tax obligations to our country".

His "Jersey Shore" castmates were also there, including Vinny Guadagnino, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Ronnie Margo-Ortiz, DJ Paulie D and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, reported the Asbury Park Press.

Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino arrives at the courthouse to plead guilty to charges of tax evasion.

In January, Sorrentino pleaded guilty to tax evasion and concealing income, stemming from a 2014 indictment for falsifying business and personal tax returns between 2010 and 2012. "People can look at me and say, 'If he can do it, I can'".

He apologized to the court during brief remarks and said he has overcome substance abuse. More recently, he appeared on the show's spinoff, "Jersey Shore Family Vacation".

Prosecutors said Sorrentino concealed his cash income by making multiple cash deposits in a single day in amounts less than $10,000 to evade his banks' reporting requirements.

As part of his sentence, the reality TV star has to complete 500 hours of community service when he is released. As the world remembers, the entire Jersey Shore cast was earning hefty paychecks shortly after the show premiered on December 3, 2009.

Sorrentino starred on the MTV series from 2009 to 2012.
