FEMA Tests New Presidential Emergency Alert System On Cellphones

FEMA Tests New Presidential Emergency Alert System On Cellphones

In accordance with the WARN act, you are allowed to block imminent safety and AMBER alerts, but not Presidential alerts. The text message will be sent to phones within a half hour period, beginning at 2.18pm EDT, with the TV and radio messages broadcast two minutes later, at 2.20pm [7.20pm BST].

GettyU.S. President Donald Trump speaks while meeting with a FEMA Administrator.

On a conference call on Tuesday, government officials told reporters Trump would not personally trigger the alert - from his phone or any other device - and emphasized that no president could "wake up one morning and attempt to send a personal message".

News of the alert prompted many to wonder if President Trump can text them directly and if he even wrote the alert himself.

Government agencies nationwide have issued more than 40,000 emergency alerts to cell phones since 2012.

The brief message will also say that it is only a TEST and that no action is needed.

Only telecom operators who have participated can push the alert to WEA-compatible phones. You're probably familiar with this system because it's been around for a long time. The test message will be similar to regular monthly EAS test messages with which the public is familiar.

In a statement, FEMA said it will conduct a nationwide test Wednesday of the Wireless Emergency Alerts system (WEA) which will go to cell phones.

A tone will sound, mirroring previous alerts you may have received, like Amber Alerts or flood watch warnings. It featured a loud alarm, followed by vibration that lasted around one minute, and required no action.

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a national warning system that requires participants to provide the President with the ability to address the nation during a national emergency.

The Southern District of NY court docket indicates summons were issued to Trump and FEMA Director William "Brock" Long on September 26.

A group of New Yorkers filed a lawsuit in federal court in NY arguing they should not be compelled to receive the alerts under their right to free speech. The plaintiffs said the alert system fails to give people the chance to opt out.

You can read the full complaint here.

Cell phone owners in the United States will receive WEA alerts from the president regardless of whether their carrier allows them to opt out of the other alerts.

"How he uses technology like not very responsibly".

People are so against the unwanted presidential alert that a lawsuit was filed September 26 to try to prevent it.

The WEA system now only supports English messages at this time, FEMA noted.

Another Twitter user tweeted a similar alert which read: 'HOT SINGLES NOW AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA'.

"So some people got the presidential alert and some people didn't?"
