Arsenal's Danny Welbeck making case to get more starts - Unai Emery

Arsenal's Danny Welbeck making case to get more starts - Unai Emery

The Gunners head into Wednesday's match with five consecutive wins.

"A big thanks to Petr Cech because he took a lot of balls today and we won our first clean sheet", he told Sky Sports.

"I think this is what we lacked since I arrived, over the last three years".

In the past, the League Cup has always been used by Arsenal as an opportunity to embed the club's young players and give them the experience of first-team football.

Unai Emery has rung in the changes as Arsenal prepare to welcome Brentford to the Emirates for their Carabao Cup third round match.

It was a well-timed display from Cech after the former Chelsea star was replaced by pre-season signing Bernd Leno for Thursday's Europa League win over Vorskla Poltava.

That deadlock was broken in 56 minute with a wonder strike from Alexandre Lacazette, and three minutes later Arsenal found themselves in with a double when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang slotted home from the six-yard box.

"He is very receptive and listen to advice so I have no doubt that he will continue his progression".

"They are very great teams here and every match, like yesterday against Everton, is very hard".

Dean Smith's Bees made a bad start, allowing Matteo Guendouzi to swing in an unopposed cross from a short corner which brought Arsenal's fifth-minute opener by Welbeck.

Pickford's search for a clean sheet continued when Lacazette broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half.

He might face a tough task to leapfrog in-form striking duo Lacazette or Aubameyang in the pecking order, but there appears to be little doubt Welbeck will get plenty of game time at Emirates Stadium if he keeps up his current form.

Much improved performance especially 1st half & before the goal.

"It is a clear offside for their second goal and it is a decision at an important stage, because at 1-0, we would have kept creating problems for them. Winning is better I think to find this but I think we are on the way".

"We spoke in the dressing room [at half-time] about stopping their [Everton's] attacking moments with better positioning on the pitch and also individually, helping each other and pushing more in the 45 minutes of the second half", he said.
