Henry Cavill reportedly out as Superman in DC movies

With word circulating that Henry Cavill is out as Superman in future DCEU movies, the question of just what Warner Bros. has planned for the Man of Steel on the big screen is on everyone's minds. According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations for Cavill to appear in a cameo in the upcoming connected feature "Shazam!" broke down due to scheduling conflicts with "Mission Impossible: Fallout".

According to the highly reputable Hollywood Reporter, Cavill - who has played Superman in three films - will not be playing Clark Kent and his re-caped caped alter ego, although neither side has confirmed the story. After wanting to have a Superman cameo in the upcoming Shazam! film, Warner Bros. have reportedly settled on loosing Cavill in order to pursue other DC properties. Warner Bros. has reportedly cut him out from future DC Universe projects in favor of making Supergirl movies. This seems unlikey, with many fans already thinking Warner Bros. shifted too far away from comic book canon with the recent Cavill films. Even more interesting, is that they are of the mindset that the Superman role is interchangeable, similar to James Bond.

Another source says no stand-alone Superman films are planned for the near term. A solo Batman movie is also in development that may or may not star Ben Affleck back in the title role.

Out with Henry Cavill, in with Michael B. Jordan? That might happen for someone now, but it doesn't look like being the former Tudors star, who it was recently announced will lead Netflix's The Witcher series. He notes that Marvel had to move on to its "B or C-level characters" like Iron Man and Thor, with outstanding results. Given the DC timeline, Superman would be a baby at the time of that film.

Shazam! sees a release on April 5th, 2019 - long after Jason Momoa's standalone Aquaman movie dives beneath the waves and introduces viewers to the weird and wonderful world of Atlantis.
