Who Is The Anonymous NYT Author? Perhaps The NYT?

Republicans are upset about The New York Times op-ed by an anonymous senior administration official who claims there are individuals working against certain actions by President Donald Trump.

The New York Times, it would not be inaccurate to say, has been at loggerheads with the Donald Trump administration nearly since the day the real estate mogul-turned-politician took office. I don't talk the way I am quoted.

Vice president Mike Pence also denied he was responsible, after the writer used the word "lodestar", a term he has often used in speeches. And, quite frankly, if there was a person in the White House or in the administration who wanted to tell me what's in that op-ed piece I would say 'OK, name me who was there.

President Donald Trump on Friday slammed investigative journalist Bob Woodward's damning portrayal of the inner workings of the United States president's administration as a "scam", alleging that it includes made-up quotes.

In his book, Woodward published a picture of the unsigned letter.

"That people better wake up to what's going on", Woodward said.

The text of the op-ed was pulled apart for clues: The writer is identified as an "administration official"; does that mean a person who works outside the White House?

In the first TV interview since his latest book began sending shock waves through Washington, author Bob Woodward defended himself against President Trump's claims that "Fear" is a work of "fiction".

That top officials are reportedly working against the elected USA leader has raised some alarm and not just from the White House.

Trump's chief of staff, the retired general John Kelly, considers the president "unhinged", according to Woodward's "Fear", a 448-page account of an out-of-control White House set to hit bookshelves next week. "It will make President Trump more resistant to sober advice than he already was, which doesn't seem like a good thing for the country".

He said that without that detail on the op-ed author's story, 'I wouldn't have used it'.

Pence said he did not know who wrote the Times column but that he was "100 percent confident that no one on the vice president's staff was involved in this anonymous editorial". For example, a Trump tweet about the Korean crisis alarmed the Pentagon, the author said.

Woodward, who has written extensively about nine White Houses, said this is unprecedented behavior.

What's the analog in the New York Times op-ed?

The President also lashed out on Wednesday and dismissed the op-ed as "really a disgrace" and "gutless" and assailed the author and the Times for publishing the anonymous opinion piece.

First lady Melania Trump also weighed in, praising the free press as "important to our democracy" before attacking the writer, saying "you are not protecting this country, you are sabotaging it with your cowardly actions".

So in the administration's view, anonymity in the media is fine so long as it fits the president's agenda.
