Body of California Woman Found after Boats Crash on Colorado River

Divers returned to the roaring Colorado River on Sunday in search of three people missing and presumed dead after a head-on boat crash along the California-Arizona border that injured nine people, two critically.

One boat carried 10 people and the other vessel had six aboard in a well-traveled stretch of the river, the sheriff's office said.

The deceased boater was identified as Christine Lewis, 51, a nurse at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, California.

Rescue crews responded to a boat collision Saturday night near the Pirate Cove Resort & Marina in Needles, California. Immediately after the collision, people on passing boats helped pull victims from the river water. He said low light conditions undoubtedly played a role.None of the boaters were wearing life vests when the collision occurred, said Anita Mortensen, a spokeswoman for the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene, with one person suffering life-threatening injuries airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital.

The name of the boater still missing hasn't been released.

Rescuers have yet to locate the other three missing individuals, two women and a man.

The crash happened in Moabi Regional Park, a popular water recreation area along the border about 290 miles east of Los Angeles.

The search operation has shut down a two-mile area of the river, Schuster said. Efforts resumed after daybreak Sunday, and authorities closed off the stretch of the river where the search was taking place.

Two helicopters searched by air, and divers were sent out into the river's waters, which can range from shallow to 30 feet deep, USA Today reports.

According to the LA Times, all 16 people were throw into the "fast-moving" river as the boats sank.

Hours before Drury's body was discovered, authorities said they located the remains of 50-year-old Brian Grabowski of Tulare.
