I should learn from Roger Federer, says 'done nothing' Nick Kyrgios

The US Open match between Nick Kyrgios and Roger Federer was played in the right spirit.

And on Saturday, he produced a shot in his match against Nick Kyrgios that had the tennis world talking, including Kyriagos himself. The match turned at 3-3 in the first set with the second-seeded Federer serving.

However, there was one shot in the third set which caught the eye of everyone there at the court and those watching on the television sets.

With Kyrgios one point away from going up 4-3 in the third, Federer pulled out a magical shot around the post that earned him an ovation from the crowd in NY.

Federer's 6-4 6-1 7-5 clinic left Kyrgios in a reflective mood.

"It was nearly unreal", said Kyrgios, who is no stranger to trick shots of his own.

Federer takes the shot outside the court, making a nonsense of the net to leave Kyrgios flat-footed.

"I definitely think it was a special one, no doubt about it. Other big shots I remember, with Andy (Roddick), the counter-smash, and of course the between-the-legs here with Novak (Djokovic)".

"At the beginning it was hard to get any sort of rhythm but I enjoy playing against Nick, he always keeps you on the edge and it's quite entertaining also for the opponent". "He's the ultimate role model to anyone who wants to play".

For many, his visit to NY this year was his tennis career in a nutshell.

Kohlschreiber will seek a quarter-final berth against 2014 runner-up Kei Nishikori after the Japanese downed Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

Federer now faces John Millman in the fourth round.

From there, Federer served out the match easily to set up a fourth-round clash with another Australian, John Millman.

But he said no matter what he tried, Federer had the answers. "I've got a lot of respect for Roger".

The Aussie star took to social media to congratulate the 37-year-old and predicted Federer could well be on his way to the 21st Grand Slam of his career.

Win that, and Federer could find himself in a quarterfinal against 13-time major title victor Novak Djokovic, who faced Richard Gasquet in the third round later Saturday (NZT Sunday). There he beat Mikhail Kukushkin 6-4 4-6 6-1 6-3 to claim his place in the second week. "So that's why I won, because I believed I have a chance", the No. 8-seeded Pliskova said. All the pressure was off him.

Kyrgios sounded like he knew he was done after letting the first set slip away. "When he gets in front, there's not much you can do".
