This is what Paul Manafort was found guilty of

Duncan said the documentary evidence was more than strong enough to overcome the testimony of Rick Gates, Manafort's former right-hand man and the prosecution's star witness, whose credibility withered under cross-examination. And Michael Cohen, Trump's closest personal aide at the time, has pled guilty and his lawyer is shopping his services to Mueller as well.

A spokesman for the special counsel's office and a spokesman for Manafort did not immediately return messages seeking comment. He was also convicted of failing to report foreign bank accounts in 2012 and of two bank fraud charges that accused him of lying to obtain millions of dollars in loans after his consulting income dried up.

The two bank fraud charges on which he was convicted each carry a potential prison term of up to 30 years.

The defense lawyers also suggested that Mr. Manafort had been targeted by prosecutors to pressure him into cooperating with Mr. Mueller's inquiry into possible collusion by the Trump campaign with Russian Federation in the 2016 election.

A juror who voted to convict Paul Manafort and who is also a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump has some advice for Trump if he is considering whether to pardon his former campaign chairman: don't do it. The newly revealed jury verdict form has handwritten notes of "no consensus 11 to 1" on the other 10.

Mark MacDougall, a longtime criminal defense lawyer in Washington, said the judge in the Manafort case "followed the rulebook" when he questioned the jury.

President Trump has repeatedly called the probe a "witch hunt" that hasn't found evidence of Russian collusion with his campaign, and his allies in and out of the White House say the special counsel should wrap things up. "I think it would be a big mistake", Duncan, 54, told Reuters after an on-camera interview on Friday, adding that she believed it would be a mistake from both a moral and a political perspective.

When she was selected as a juror in the case of Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort, which stemmed from Mueller's investigation, she even brought her "Make America Great Again" hat to the federal courthouse for the Eastern District of Virginia and kept it in her auto during the proceedings.

The trial carries major implications for the future of Mueller's investigation.

Harry Litman, a former U.S. Attorney and deputy assistant attorney general, told the magazine that Trump's conduct could be considered illegal if his intent was corrupt.

Duncan said the deliberations were heated at times, leading some jurors to tears at one point, but that politics did not influence their decision-making. It's really at the discretion of prosecutors. Manafort now faces a second trial on September 17 in Washington in which he is charged with money laundering, failing to register as a lobbyist in the United States for his work for pro-Kremlin politicians in Ukraine, and obstruction of justice.

MARTIN: So what about those parts, those counts that the jury couldn't reach a consensus on? Manafort's lobbying firm Black, Manafort, Stone and Atwater would earn almost a million dollars a year from the Marcos connection, "one of the first big foreign gigs landed by the firm". He earned that money working as a consultant for Ukraine's then-president, Viktor Yanukovych.

Manafort's attorneys called no witnesses, arguing prosecutors failed to meet their burden of proof.

Failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts, 2013.

Manafort is set to go on trial in a separate federal case in September in Washington, D.C. He has also been charged with conspiracy and failing to register as a foreign agent in that case.
