This also represents the 60th time that Oklahoma has appeared in the preseason AP poll, second most behind Ohio State (65 times).

The Big Ten's five in the top 15 led all conferences. Oklahoma entered the 1985-87 seasons as the nation's top team but finished the season No. 1 just once over that span, in 1985.

College football's "week zero" arrives later this week and, to celebrate the start of the 2018 season, The Associated Press released its first Top 25 offering of the campaign on Monday.

Penn State is the third Big Ten team in the top 10 at No. 10, with Michigan State at No. 11, and Michigan at No. 14.

No surprise that defending champs Alabama ranked #1 receiving 42 first-place votes. It was the tenth consecutive year in which the Seminoles have opened the season ranked in the AP poll. It's UM's highest ranking to open the season since starting as the No. 5 team in the country in 2004. OU's all-time average preseason AP rank is 6.7, best in the nation (Michigan is second at 7.4).

On Aug. 2, the Canes were ranked No. 8 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
