Chelsea 0 Lyon 0 - Blues go close and youngster impressing in friendly

The France global was heavily tipped to join Liverpool prior to the World Cup but the deal was scuppered after the Reds tried to re-negotiate his £53m asking price citing his injury record.

'It's too early to say, ' he told reporters after Lyon's International Champions Cup defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday.

According to L'Equipe, Lyon will be happy to sell if Liverpool - or another club - submits a bid in the region of £60million but given that the Reds abandoned negotiations when the fee was £53million, it seems all but certain Fekir will stay put this summer.

Fekir remains a target for Liverpool, while Chelsea are now making a move before Thursday's Premier League deadline. 'He wanted to leave at the end of last season, but came back to training yesterday and was happy.

Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta and Eden Hazard all scored for Chelsea while Diop was the only Olympique Lyon player who missed his kick.

In his absence, the Ligue 1 side toiled for inspiration, with former England stopper Rob Green saving the decisive penalty following a goalless 90 minutes. As things stand, Chelsea appear the sole club in the race for Fekir with Liverpool not necessarily needing another attacker following the arrival of Xherdan Shaqiri.

Insisting on his happiness at Lyon, the skipper said:"As you can see, I am in Lyon".

Hazard's future at Stamford Bridge is also unclear as he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Barcelona but the Belgian firmly believes the Blues would truly benefit from keeping the 22-year-old.
