Pep Guardiola lauds Bernardo Silva: It's him and ten others

City finished top of the league with a record-breaking campaign of the most points and most wins in the division's history last season.

Sarri and Guardiola are close friends and dined together on the eve of the Community Shield, yet this first experience of Chelsea's reduced status must have left a nasty taste for the Italian.

"I am ready, I am ready", said Guardiola of City's title defence.

The deadline for the Premier League's transfer window is 18:00 on 9 August, and after that, no side in England will be allowed to buy players, although they will still be allowed to sell footballers to certain other leagues around the world.

Having signed Algeria winger Riyad Mahrez from Leicester earlier in pre-season, Guardiola wants a defensive midfielder to increase his options in that area. It was Aguero at his clinical best and after a seven-moth wait, he had his elusive 200th City goal.

But on Sunday he looked a proper first teamer, several times bursting forward from the halfway line to link well with the equally impressive Bernardo Silva and Aguero. But he arrived so sharp, so good.

"No, it won't", said Guardiola.

Sarri and company jetted off to Australia just days after his appointment to replace the fired Antonio Conte three weeks ago.

Hudson-Odoi was a rare bright spot for Chelsea, with subdued Spain striker Alvaro Morata offering little evidence he can make amends for last season's flop.

While City tweak ahead of their Premier League opener, Sarri has major work to do.

Sarri has still not seen six of his players after the World Cup, including unsettled Belgian stars Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, who are both linked with Real Madrid.

Winning is still a joy for Guardiola and his players, and despite a lack of fitness and practice time since the World Cup, the way they tore into Chelsea was ominous for their title rivals.

"He was training all season with us, he fought with all our players, so that's why it's so good to have another player with this talent".
