Man City and Chelsea lock horns in Community Shield

A plethora of players are yet to return or be cleared for action following their World Cup involvement for both sides, so here is a combined XI for those set to be involved at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Sergio Aguero slots into the striking position with little threat after yet another stunning season last term which returned 30 goals across all competitions, where he will no doubt pick up from where he left off as the 2018/19 campaign kicks-off.

"The match will be very hard for us", the Chelsea boss said in his pre-match press conference.

Pep Guardiola labelled Maurizio Sarri's Napoli one of the best sides in Europe last season as City shared a pair of thrilling UEFA Champions League group matches against the Serie A side, winning 2-1 in Manchester and 4-2 in Naples. "I think about the next game, okay, prepare that game, see the players who are sharp and ready to play that game". He did it - the team in a short time plays like he wants. "We need Jorginho more than City, so it's right that Jorginho is here", Sarri said. "I will learn a lot to see his team every weekend".

Manchester City are the Premier League's defending champions, and favourites to win the division again this season.

The 47-year-old Catalan will start the new Premier League season aiming to become the first manager since Alex Ferguson in 2009 to retain the biggest prize in English club football.

State of play: Chelsea finally got around to sacking Antonio Conte in July, nearly two months after his valedictory win in the FA Cup final.

It was Guardiola left paying the price when Sarri's arrival at Stamford Bridge proved a factor in Italy global Jorginho choosing to join Chelsea, despite City's own lengthy pursuit of the holding midfielder.

"My job is this, to improve my players".

In each of the past two Community Shield matches, new signings have scored, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic netting for Manchester United against Leicester City in 2016 and Sead Kolasinac doing likewise for Arsenal a year ago.

"Sometimes it's better to be angry with the manager, or you shout at the players, as long as they play football better". Both sides have four victories apiece in the fixture.

After finishing fifth last season, Chelsea might have been expected to be more active in the transfer market this summer.

"I want to win, because it's very important to have immediately a trophy". The veteran had a poor show at the World Cup and will be looking to put up a fine performance against PL champions. We started two and a half weeks ago.

Blues boss Sarri spoke with the player on Thursday, but there was no discussion on the future of Hazard, who continues to be linked with Real Madrid. "It's the main obstacle", said Pep.

Sarri swooped in at the last minute to bring Jorginho to Stamford Bridge.
