Manchester City request work permit for Douglas Luiz after Jorginho snub

Manchester City request work permit for Douglas Luiz after Jorginho snub

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has claimed that rival Premier League teams, hijacked his moves for Alexis Sanchez and Jorginho.

City's only high-profile signing so far has been Riyad Mahrez from Leicester in a club-record £60 million ($78 million) deal but Italy global midfielder Jorginho plumped for Chelsea.

"We want him to stay but he does not have a work permit yet so we will try to convince the federation to allow him to stay", Guardiola said.

"If at the end we decide to bring another one, it is because he's a special player, can be a special player for the future, not to have one more player for the number". For example, two years ago when we switched to three at the back then from the first day we were very good. Now from Monday we'll be all together.

Several players are likely to move on before the window closes on Thursday, with goalkeeper Joe Hart looking to make a permanent exit after hard loan spells at Torino and West Ham.

"I want players who want to come here".

"His fight to put every effort in is incredible".

The City manager also revealed how much he was looking forward to locking horns with Sarri, who replaced Conte last month.

Despite missing out on the Italy worldwide, Guardiola spoke positively about Sarri.

"I want players who want to come here".

"Of course, he needs more time to work everything but the ideas are already there, so I think it'll be a good game [ on Sunday]".

Azpilicueta knows the overflowing quality of Pep Guardiola's title-winning squad but the 28-year-old insists they will go all guns blazing and implement Sarri's high-energy and aggressive attacking football despite its relative infancy within the Blues squad. "I hope that I can keep making the fans happy".

Guardiola's men face Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday before their first Premier League game against Arsenal on August 12. Given Mahrez's competitor on the other side, Jorginho, is not known for his goalscoring, the Algerian appears the better bet to get on the scoresheet. I lived this at Barca and Bayern and we were able to repeat.
