Indonesia Invites North Korea's Kim Jong-un to Asian Games

US spy satellites have detected renewed activity at the North Korean factory that produced the country's first intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States, a senior USA official said on Monday, in the midst of talks to compel Pyongyang to give up its nuclear arms.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that United States intelligence agencies are seeing signs that work is under way on one or two liquid-fueled ICMBs at the Sanumdong research facility, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

It deemed North Korea unlikely to stage a ballistic missile blitz in light of eased tensions following landmark summit talks in Singapore in June between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The Trump administration downplayed reports Tuesday that North Korea is engaged in a flurry of new intercontinental ballistic missile activity, asserting the activity has not undermined President Trump's high-stakes diplomatic outreach to Pyongyang. "Things don't change overnight", Conway later added.

Other officials and analysts said North Korea's continued work on missile technology was unsurprising as Kim made no firm promises to Mr Trump during their meeting. Trump made his remarks after the North Korea-focused 38 North website released recent satellite imagery that seems to show dismantlement underway at Sohae.

At a Senate hearing last week, Pompeo refuted claims that the U.S, was being played by North Korea.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo acknowledged last week that North Korea was continuing "to produce fissile material".

"North Korea knows that we're watching", Bennett told AFP.

The lack of info about the supposed remains of U.S. servicemen from the Korean War will cause the process of identification to take years, according to CNN.

On Friday, North Korea returned the suspected remains of more than 50 United States soldiers killed during the Korean War, taking a step in implementing the June agreement.

A cut-off of oil and fuel would require enforcement primarily by China, which supplies most of North Korea's energy needs, but also by Russian Federation, which delivers some oil to Pyongyang. In addition to obfuscating its number of nuclear warheads and missiles, United States intelligence reportedly indicated that the regime is trying to hide the type and numbers of its facilities, and prevent global inspectors from taking a look at their developments.

No official agreement was struck between Trump and Kim, but both sides are working on a deal.

In that address, the North Korean leader was unequivocal about what was next, they say.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un make history in the first sitting between USA and North Korean leaders, as they negotiate the end of the nuclear stand-off.

But even if he does, Sung-Yoon Lee, a Korea expert at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, was sceptical that there would be any fresh signs of progress when it came to denuclearisation.

The Sanum-dong site is associated with North Korea's ICBM program.

DPAA deputy director Rear Admiral Jon Kreitz said he saw the remains transfer as an important step that will lead to more recovery operations in North Korea.
