Henrikh Mkhitaryan advises Aaron Ramsey over Gunners contract saga

Despite the fact that a majority of Arsenal's first team attack played, they couldn't penetrate the strong Atletico defense and lost 3-1 in the penalty shootout.

While the Welshman said on Wednesday that his team were yet to make a breakthrough on a new agreement over his contract with the club, Emery was positive that it is a matter of when, not if.

The Gunners play Emery's former club Paris St-Germain in the same stadium on Saturday afternoon, while Atleti face the French side two days later.

Emery (right) was appointed as Arsenal head coach in May.

This [Ramsey as captain] is not yet official, this decision.

"Arsenal have always played offensive football", he told reporters in Singapore, where Arsenal are preparing for their International Champions Cup clash with Atletico. "But when I came to this club I felt the warmth of this team is really different, it's like a family and everyone is taking care of you", he said.

"(Emery) said well done.

"Rodrigo is doing very well, he has settled very well into the group", said Simeone, after the 22-year-old had put in a solid performance in holding midfield. "Aaron has the condition to be one of the captains".

"I think this is the moment for the young players to show quality like Emile did", he added.

After Jack Wilshere joined West Ham earlier this month following talks with Unai Emery, Ramsey is now Arsenal's longest-serving player.

'Then they are winning every day in training sessions to be with us. He has grown up in the academy and we need to give young players the chance to work for us every day and play matches like today. He's a very good person, a very good professional.

"I will be very happy for him if he is going to sign a new contract because he is [part of the] history of Arsenal already and I hope he can become a legend".
