Sen. Lindsey Graham says Trump's tough talk "not working" on Putin

Sen. Lindsey Graham says Trump's tough talk

House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) on Sunday called on top intelligence officers to step down if President Donald Trump refuses to accept their assessment that the Russian government is interfering in USA elections.

In a tweet on July 23, Trump also said he and Putin "got along very well, which is a good thing", and accused what he called the "Corrupt Media" of putting a negative spin on the summit.

She goes on to call out Trump's "sycophantic relationship" with Putin, though she doesn't find it surprising considering his previous statements about the dictator, but more she is shocked by how long he was in possession of the truth about Putin and Russia's role in the US elections' meddling and his disregarding that information.

Trump said in Helsinki that the two men discussed a variety of topics in their two-hour one-on-one meeting.

After a news conference where he praised Putin, Trump was criticized by both sides of the aisle for siding with the Russian leader over USA intelligence officials. "I don't understand the apparent blindness (Trump) has to Putin's hostile acts".

Alongside voters' apparent distaste for U.S. -Russia relations, however, Trump saw a 50 percent approval rating on the economy - potentially giving him the boost he needed to overcome concerns about Russian Federation. He admitted after the interview he was not aware Trump would invite Putin to the White House.

Former House speaker and Trump adviser Newt Gingrich characterized the Helsinki meeting as "the most serious mistake of his presidency". Page has not been charged and on Sunday told CNN the allegations that he was conscripted by Russian Federation are "ridiculous" and not true. "They should drop the discredited Mueller Witch Hunt now!"

Trump's "enemy of the people" attack on Thursday marked the second time Trump has emerged from a summit with a dictator who has restricted press freedoms and subsequently attacked the news media as an "enemy".

Trump has defended his meeting with Putin by saying he wants to work with Russian Federation on issues like counter-terrorism, North Korea, Syria, and Ukraine, and he has invited Putin to visit Washington sometime in the autumn, another source of anxiety for lawmakers. "Because it is all a big hoax, that's why", Trump wrote.

On this question, independents lean more negatively than positively, with 22 percent saying America's leadership has gotten stronger under Trump, 47 percent weaker and about one-quarter saying it has stayed the same.
