Toronto shooting: Gunman dead, up to eight adults and child wounded

Reports of gunfire in the city's Greektown neighborhood began at 10 p.m. local time (0200 GMT Monday), CityNews.com reported.

Toronto's Police Chief has confirmed the gunman is dead, and there there are other fatalities.

It's reported there are at least five victims but it's unclear if there's been any fatalities.

The victims are being sent to trauma centres. "Victims are spread across many blocks".

An unknown number of people are being treated at the scene.

"And then, I saw the carnage as I ran down the street here to kind of follow the gunfire", the man told the station, who described the scene as "pretty insane".

'We started to hear people scream out front, ' Steinhauer said.

Steinhauer said she was told that four to six people were shot.

Toronto Paramedic Services said they were transporting eight people to hospital with a range of injuries, including one child.

Streets in the area have been closed while police and other emergency services respond to the incident.
