A BATWOMAN TV Series Is Coming to The CW!

A BATWOMAN TV Series Is Coming to The CW!

When the news came out that DC Comics' Batwoman was coming to this year's DCTV crossover on The CW, it probably isn't that surprising that news surfaced this morning that a Batwoman series is in development.

Should Batwoman go to series, it will be the sixth DC show on the CW, joining Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrowand Black Lightning.

The lesbian superhero's story revolves around the story of Kate Kane, an overachieving military student who was dismissed from the military academy for her sexuality and gender preference.

Of all the members of the Bat-family, Batwoman is probably the most similar to Batman. Should the live-action series get picked up, it'll be Berlanti's 7th show on the network and his 15th on-air series, overall.

Batwoman is getting her very own TV show.

Caroline Dries will serve as the writer and executive producer on the project.

The Arrowverse is no stranger to having LGBT characters, but Batwoman would be the first to headline her own series.

The character will be based not on the more well-known Barbara Gordon Batgirl character, but upon the openly gay character of Kate Kane who debuted as Gotham City's Jewish, lesbian superhero in 2006.

Variety reports that the new show's version of the character will be "an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter" who is "armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind".

Deadline is reporting that Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow) is officially working on bringing a Batwoman TV series to The CW.

Casting for the pivotal role is now underway for an "out lesbian actress, open ethnicity, to play age 25 to 29", according to TVLine. "This is the first time ever that Batwoman will make a live-action appearance on any screen", Pedowitz said, adding that, along with Batwoman, the City of Gotham also will be added to the ever-expanding Arrowverse. The DC superhero was created as a love interest for Batman in the 50's to combat criticism that Bruce Wayne might be gay.

With these new casting details in play, which out lesbian actress do you pick to play Batwoman/Kate Kane?
