Woman Missing a Week Found Alive Down a Cliff

Reported missing by her family on July 6, Hernandez survived for seven days at the bottom of the 200-foot bluff by siphoning water from a creek using a hose from her 2011 Jeep Patriot's radiator, the San Mateo Sheriff's Office reported in a Facebook post.

She was on a road trip from her home in Portland to visit her sister in Los Angeles County when she crashed.

She stayed alive "by drinking water from the radiator of her vehicle", according to the Highway Patrol. Rescuers from the California Highway Patrol, the State Parks Department and local fire departments "responded and were able to bring her back to the roadway". She was pulled up by ropes and taken to a hospital.

Authorities used climbing gear to reach Hernandez, who told authorities that she lost control after swerving to avoid hitting an animal.

Authorities said Hernandez injured her shoulder but could walk and talk.
