Reporter reveals how new Arsenal signing was first scouted

Emery is hoping it won't go to that as the new Gunners manager has uncovered that he's disclosed to Ivan Gazidis that the midfielder is a vital piece of his plans and he's eager to work with him this coming season.

The Spaniard, who took over from Arsene Wenger in May, said Laurent Koscielny would remain his "first captain".

Lucas Torreira, Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Matteo Guendouzi and Stephan Lichtsteiner have all arrived, while stalwarts Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker have left the club.

Speaking in English - which, while can be described as a work in progress, has still shown an excellent improvement from his unveiling at the Emirates in May, after intensive lessons this summer - spoke at length about his squad.

"Normally, in my career, the big clubs don't close the [door] or the moment to sign a new player", Emery told the press.

"Normally, we are thinking about the young players, the possibility of them staying with us or going to play on loan at another team".

"We are looking at, looking for, who are the players whose personality is the best in the dressing room".

The midfielder was part of the Uruguay squad at this summer's World Cup and he completed his move after his country were knocked out by France.

"We signed the players who we need, only if one player is a big opportunity for us to sign we can do it", he added.

"The first two weeks for us is to start knowing the club, knowing the players, knowing all the people who are working with us". We want to keep the respect for these players and to find the captain and choose very well the best player for that.

Arsenal trained on Wednesday as they continue their preparations for the new season under Unai Emery.

"I know him but we haven't made a move for him", Emery said.

"Each coach needs to know the players".

"Not all the coaches have the same relationship with a player and I have my personality".

"But the club has done a great job of signing new players and I am happy".

Kudos to Mislintat and co for snapping up 5 players before the first game of pre-season.
