Trump's ex-lawyer fires what could be a warning shot

Michael Cohen's new attorney came out firing Monday against President Donald Trump and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, challenging Giuliani over a recent interview and claiming the president and his lawyer together calling for the truth was an "oxymoron".

According to NPR, Guiliani said in an interview that Cohen should cooperate with prosecutors, and that "as long as he tells the truth" there would be no negative effect for Trump.

A day after he tweeted "I will always protect my POTUS" in April, the FBI raided his home, office and hotel room as part of a probe by federal prosecutors in NY into his business dealings.

"We would not recommend an interview for the president unless they can satisfy us that there is some basis for this investigation", Mr. Giuliani said on NBC, a hardening of the White House's stance after months of negotiations on the terms under which the president would agree to testify.

While he wouldn't tell Stephanopoulos if he would cooperate with prosecutors, he also didn't dampen such speculation, taking issue with some of Trump's criticisms of the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation and even going out of his way to praise the FBI. I do know there's no evidence of wrongdoing with President Trump. "I put family and country first".

"The New York Times reported that President Trump won't agree to an interview with Robert Mueller unless Mueller first proves he has evidence that President Trump committed a crime".

While several other top Trump staffers have been interviewed in the Russian Federation probe, the administration is cracking down in part because of allegations of bias within the special counsel team, Giuliani said.

On CNN's "State of the Union", host Dana Bash asked if Giuliani was going back on his past comments that he didn't think Cohen would "flip" on Trump.

In a Fox News interview previous year, Mr. Cohen declared: "I will do anything to protect Mr. Trump".

But some analysts have drawn comparisons between Cohen's story and that of former Trump aide Michael Flynn, who was charged by Mueller's team past year.

"Zero. None", Giuliani said. "They have to give us factual basis leading to some suspicion of a crime".

"It's our firm belief, and we think nothing contradicts this, the president did nothing wrong", he said.

In his interview last week, Cohen said Trump "simply accepting the denial of" Russian President Vladimir Putin that he didn't meddle in the 2016 U.S. presidential election was "unsustainable".

Cohen was Trump's self-described fixer and a key player in the Trump Organization for more than a decade, regularly berating reporters and threatening lawsuits against anyone who posed a challenge to his boss.
