And on Sunday, Wall Street Journal reported that it had seen satellite imagery suggesting that Pyongyang is pushing ahead with its weapons programmes.

She added that "we're continuing our conversations and also our consultations with the North Korean government about what the president and what Kim Jong Un agreed to at the Singapore summit".

The White House appeared to support Bolton's comment with Sarah Sanders, the spokeswoman, saying Monday, "As far as the one-year timeline, Ambassador Bolton said if North Korea makes the decision, their nuclear and ballistic missile programs could be dismantled in a year" and there's "great momentum right now".

U.S. intelligence officials told NBC News that Pyongyang is increasing its nuclear fuel production.

Donald Trump said on Sunday it was "possible" that a deal he claimed ended the nuclear threat posed by North Korea would not "work out". One of his goals: a declaration of specific steps North Korea can take to dismantle its nuclear weapons programs.

The 100-member delegation will depart for North Korea at 10 a.m. on Tuesday on two military airplanes flying from an airport in Seongnam, south of Seoul, according to the official.

Appearing on CBS's Face the Nation, Bolton said he did not want to comment on the reports or on "anything related to intelligence" - NBC having quoted more than a dozen senior U.S. intelligence officials and the Post four.

Nauert said the North Koreans were very "clear" on what the United States wants from them: complete denuclearization.

More news: Bolton: N. Korea Could Dismantle Nuclear Program Within a Year

The Washington Post earlier reported on United States intelligence officials' doubt that North Korea intends to fully surrender its nuclear stockpile.

"It has not. Physically, we would be able to dismantle the overwhelming bulk of their programs within a year", Bolton said.

Asia expert Patrick Cronin called the NBC and Washington Post reports "extremely worrisome".

The president's comments in a morning tweet followed a report Saturday in The Washington Post that USA intelligence officials have concluded that North Korea does not intend to fully surrender its nuclear arms stockpile and instead is considering ways to hide the number of weapons it has and its secret production facilities.

"His reputation is on the line in the same way that we are, that says we're going to create a brighter future for North Korea and denuclearize as quickly as we can achieve that".

The Trump administration said the talks made progress but would not elaborate.

Trump has boasted that the statement reached between the USA and North Korea on June 12 in Singapore resolved the old foes' nuclear stand-off, but Pompeo has been tasked with nailing down details. "I would like to see some answers as to why we didn't take the server, why the Federal Bureau of Investigation didn't take the server from the DNC".
