Former MSNBC Anchor Ed Schultz Has Died - Cortney O'Brien

Longtime radio personality Ed Schultz has died, his former employer WDAY-TV reported Thursday. Schultz most recently was working for RT America, part of a television network funded by the Russian government.

Schultz was also a television sportscaster and the host of a television news commentary show on MSNBC. RT reports he passed away at his home in Washington, D.C On Thursday. He later changed his political views and became a Democrat. At one point, The Ed Schultz Show was syndicated to almost 100 affiliates, and in 2008 he was ranked No. 17 nationally by Talkers magazine, reaching a weekly audience of more than 3 million listeners. It was reportedly from natural causes.

In 2017, RT America was required to register as a foreign agent.

After leaving MSNBC, Schultz signed with RT America to produce "The News with Ed Schultz".

"Ed Schultz was incredibly kind to me when I was first doing TV on MSNBC", Sam Stein, the politics editor at The Daily Beast and an MSNBC contributor, wrote on Twitter. "He was tough on a lot of young journalists in RT America's newsroom; he was a mentor to a few", said RT America News Director Mikhail Solodovnikov. He was a prime-time fixture on the network from 2011 to 2013. In 1977, he led NCAA Division II in passing while quarterback at Minnesota State University-Moorhead. I got a lot of tire left.
